Who Was India's First ODI Captain

Ajit Wadekar - India's First ODI CaptainAjit Wadekar, captained India in its First One Day International (ODI) Match played against England at Headingley, Leeds in the year 1974.

Coming in at No.3 on that day, Wadekar scored a fluent 67 to help India post a total of 265. This incidentally was his highest ODI score. India however ended up on the losing side that day.

Born on 1st April, 1941 at Mumbai, Wadekar played 37 Test Matches and 2 ODI's for India. He captained India in 16 Test Matches and the 2 ODI's that he played in. Under him India won 4 Test Matches but could not register a ODI victory. His highest Test Score was 143.

The stylish left handed bat, Wadekar remains one of India's best No.3 batsman of all times.
